The Great White has a unique ability to breach out of the water.
This behaviour can be seen nowhere else on earth on such a regular basis as in False Bay, and especially around Seal Island. This unique hunting behaviour is mainly observed when hunting seals.
The shark rises from the depth of the sea, and like a missile, propels itself out of the water, attempting to grasp the seal. Usually the seal is completely unaware of the attack. Should the shark, however miss the seal, the chase is on.
Whilst not all attacks are successful surviving seals may be left wounded.
